Australian rare earth producer Lynas factory in Malaysia successfully produced the first batch of heavy rare earth elements products, become the only one outside of China to produce such materials on a large scale.
Lynas (Lynas) President Lacaze (Amanda Lacaze) said in an article on May 16, Lynas Malaysia plant is the only commercial production and supply of separation of heavy rare earth elements outside of China's enterprises, which will further consolidate Malaysia's position as a global rare earth industry hub.
Located in Pahang state Kuantan Gebeng industrial area of Linus rare earth plant production of heavy rare earth products is dysprosium (dysprosium), another heavy rare earth products terbium (terbium) will be put into production in June this year.
According to Linus' quarterly report in March this year, the production line for dysprosium started operations in the first quarter of this year and went into production in May. In the report, Lacaze said, “Producing this specification-compliant dysprosium is an important step in strengthening the resilience of the supply chain, providing customers with the option of sourcing this product from suppliers outside of China.” She also said Linus is engaging with customers in Japan, the U.S. and Europe on heavy rare earth supply, and expects strong demand to influence market prices for these products.
Currently, the heavy rare earth elements dysprosium, terbium, samarium, europium, gadolinium and holmium from Australia's Mt. Weld mine are sold as mixed compounds to customers who further process them into separated products. Linus has adapted the refining process to separate 1,500 tons of mixed rare earth compounds per year.
