Magnetic Field Strength of Neodymium Magnets N45SH Grade

N45SH is a high-performance grade of sintered neodymium-iron-boron magnet, offering excellent magnetic properties and resistance to demagnetisation. It is commonly used in high-performance motors, servo motors and drive motors for new energy vehicles, amongst other applications. Below is an overview of the magnetic field strength associated with this grade, a topic of interest to many.


In terms of magnetic performance parameters, the residual magnetisation (Br) of N45SH generally ranges from 1.30 to 1.36 T (13,000 to 13,600 Gs), the coercive force (Hcj) typically reaches ≥1,592 kA/m (approximately 20 kOe), and the maximum energy product (BH)max is approximately 43 to 46 MGOe. Taking a commonly sized magnet as an example for measuring surface magnetic flux density—such as a 15 × 6 × 3 mm block magnet—the surface magnetic flux density (at the centre) is around 2,900 Gauss. For a slightly thinner 10 × 5 × 0.8 mm block, the surface magnetic flux density at the centre is around 1,130 Gauss. For a radially magnetised hollow cylinder measuring D7.6 × 2.7 × 25 mm, the surface magnetic flux density at the centre is approximately 3,150 Gauss. An N45SH wafer-type countersunk magnet measuring R17.6 × R9.9 × 45° × 30 × D3.2 mm has a surface magnetic flux density of approximately 3,020 gauss.

Compared with other grades (such as N35, N38, N42 and N40H), N45SH is a high-performance, heat-resistant magnet which maintains a high energy product whilst also offering good stability in high-temperature environments.


In practical applications, N45SH magnets are often machined into arc-shaped or hollow cylindrical rotor magnets (e.g. high-speed motor rotor magnets with shaft: D6.3x3x12 N45SH), For magnets of the same dimensions, N45SH typically offers a magnetic energy increase of approximately 20% to 30% compared to N35, whilst also exhibiting better heat resistance than standard N45. It is currently one of the most widely used high-performance neodymium-iron-boron grades in the motor industry.
