Gauss Rating and Way Step of Using Gauss Meter

If you want to understand how a Gauss meter is used, you must first understand what Gauss is. What is the data obtained from the measurement of the Gauss meter? What circumstances need to use gauss meter?

What is Gauss?

Gauss is a unit of measurement of magnetic field B or magnetic flux density. This kind of unit is part of the Gaussian system of units, which continues from the old CGS-EMU system. It is named after the German mathematician and physicist Karl Friedrich Gauss, who built an early instrument for measuring magnetic fields. His version is essentially a bar magnet suspended by a string. For example, 5000 gauss means that the maximum magnetic field of your magnet is 5,000 Gauss. But note that if you check the magnetic field strength with a Gaussianmeter, that is, measure the Gaussian value at a certain point. That is, the magnetic field strength at that point on the magnet is 5000 Gauss, but the Gauss value at other points may be different.

Magnets usually have Gauss ratings, which can be used to infer clues about tension. In particular, it is necessary to remind and note that the strength of the magnet cannot be judged only according to the Gaussian level. Although a magnet may have a high Gaussian rating or magnetic flux, it may not be as strong as another magnet with a low rating for a specific reason when has a different size. In other words, when it comes to magnet strength, the actual size and magnetic flux of high-power magnets are both important at the same time.

What is the difference between a Gaussian magnet and a magnetic flux?

Normally, we perform Gaussian and flux measurements to determine the performance of the magnet.

Magnetic flux, also known as magnetic flux, refers to a plane with area S and perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field in a uniform magnetic field with magnetic induction intensity B. The product of magnetic induction intensity B and area S is called the magnetic flux through this plane, referred to as magnetic flux, and the symbol is "Φ".

The reproducibility of magnetic flux is better than Gaussian, more stable, and the error is not too large. Note: Gauss (Gs) is a unit of measurement for magnetic field lines. 1T=10000Gs

What is a Gauss meter? What is the resulting data?

The Gaussian meter (also known as the Tesla meter) is an instrument based on the principle of the Hall effect to measure the magnetic induction intensity, measuring the static or dynamic (AC) magnetic induction intensity of an object at a point in space.

It is composed of Hall probe and measuring instrument. Hall probe generates Hall voltage in magnetic field due to Hall effect. After measuring Hall voltage, the magnetic induction intensity can be determined according to Hall voltage formula and known Hall coefficient.

The working principle is that the Hall sensor (higher precision can choose fluxgate sensor) passes through the magnetic field line of the object to generate current and voltage, and the magnetic induction intensity is displayed on the main device.

Gauss meter is a precision instrument used to measure and display the average magnetic flux density or magnetic induction intensity per unit area. The value of a gauss meter is expressed in gauss or kilogause.

How to use Gauss meter?

How to use Gauss meter

First, to adjust the Gauss meter

Before using a Gaussian meter for measurement, some settings must be made. First we should make sure the Gauss meter is correct, check the measuring range and accuracy, etc. Secondly, to choose an environment without external magnetic field interference, such as a laboratory or field empty site. When you are ready to start measuring with a Gaussian meter, you need to place it in the desired measurement area and make sure it is perpendicular to the ground. This is to keep it in line with the vertical direction of the Earth's magnetic field so that accurate measurements can be made.

And then, use gaussian meter for measuring

Gauss meter is the preferred tool for magnetic field measurement because of its simplicity, high precision and wide measuring range. The following will show you how to make measurements using a Gaussian meter.

  • Place the end of the probe of the Gauss meter in the area to be measured of the magnet and keep the Gauss meter perpendicular to the ground.

  • The Gauss meter will start to record the value of the magnetic field strength. Please note that during the measurement, it is necessary to hold the probe for a few seconds and do not move the probe, as this may negatively affect the measurement results.

  • When the measurement is completed, will record the data stored in the gauss meter or the computer's memory. The recorded data in the memory can be used for analysis or comparison.

The above is about the Gauss principle and how to use the Gauss meter answer, hope to provide you with help in the process of using magnets. We are courage magnet manufacturers, if you need a magnet, whether it is conventional or custom magnets, please contact us!
