Valve types that require the use of magnets

Magnets play a key role in some special function valves, mainly used for position sensing, control drive or signal transmission, the following are common will use magnets in several types of valves.

Magnetic control (on/off) valves

Magnetic on/off valves are one of the most common types of valves to apply magnets, often used with Hall sensors or reed switches. When the magnet on the spool or piston moves to a specific position, the sensor generates an electrical signal that enables status monitoring and feedback of the valve. Commonly used in pneumatic systems, hydraulic controls and automated smart devices, magnetic valves offer the advantages of fast response, compactness and ease of installation.

Solenoid valves with magnetic feedback

Traditional solenoid valves rely on a solenoid coil to control the spool action, but some high-end models embed neodymium magnets in the spool or drive stem for feedback on whether the valve is actually moving into place. Closed-loop control is achieved by collecting magnetic field change signals through external magnetic sensors to improve system reliability. This solution is commonly used in automated production lines and factory IoT control.

There are many shapes of magnets for valves, and this U-shaped grooved block ferrite is one of them.

Magnetic Float Ball Valves / Magnetic Float Level Valves

In the liquid level control system, a common valve structure is the built-in magnet float moves up and down with the liquid level, triggering the external magnetic sensor, thus controlling the opening and closing of the inlet or discharge valve. This design is simple and reliable, and is widely used in water tanks, dosing units, potable water systems and other fields.

Proportional control valve (magnetic feedback type)

Proportional valves are core devices that control the flow of gases or liquids. In some high-precision proportional valves, a linear magnet is embedded in the spool or slider, which, together with a Hall position sensor, provides real-time feedback on its opening to achieve finer regulation and control. This structure is mainly used in automated production, spraying equipment, and precision flow control systems.

The use of magnets in valves not only improves the level of intelligence, but also enhances the reliability and responsiveness of the control. From simple position detection to complex contactless drive structures, magnets are playing their irreplaceable role.
