What are Highest Gauss Magnets? Characteristics?

In the field of magnetic materials, Gauss is a unit of measurement of the strength of a magnetic field, which reflects the flux density generated by a magnet at a given position. The term ‘high gauss magnet’ or ‘highest gauss magnet’ is often used to refer to magnets that have a very high magnetic energy product (i.e. BH maximum) and surface flux density (Gauss value).

The highest gauss magnets refer to permanent magnets with very high surface flux density, usually made of rare-earth materials, especially high-grade grades of neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets, such as N52, N54, which provide stronger magnetic force, higher pull force and longer acting distance with the same size.

Take neodymium magnets N52 grade, for example, with surface flux densities up to 14,500 gauss (about 1.45 Tesla) Special customised NdFeBs can even achieve more than 15,000 gauss under certain conditions.

Sintered neodymium magnets is currently the main magnetic material for achieving ultra-high flux densities.

3 main features of the highest gauss magnets;

1. Super magnetic force. Under the same volume, the magnetic force is far more than ordinary magnets, which is widely used in occasions that require very high magnetic force.

2. Can be made smaller. Can achieve the same or stronger magnetic effect through a smaller volume, which is conducive to the lightweight design of precision electronic products.

3. Fast response speed. In magnetic sensor or Hall element applications, high gauss magnets can produce stronger magnetic field changes, thus enabling the system to respond faster and more accurately.

Currently, the highest gauss magnets are used in high-end motors and generators, magnetic levitation systems, medical equipment, magnetic separation and testing equipment, and experimental magnetic field control.

The above is some introduction about the highest gauss magnet, it should be noted that the magnet gauss value is very high does not mean that the pulling force is very large, a small magnet even if the gauss value is very high, but the contact area is small, the suction force generated is limited. On the contrary, a large magnet, even if it has an average gauss value, may actually have a stronger pulling force because of the large contact area.
