Many people may not know that the key to a natural gas magnetic valve has a magnet on it? Some have one magnet, while others have as many as three or four. So, what is the purpose of the magnet on the key?
The magnet on the key for opening and closing natural gas valves is not intended for attracting metal objects, but rather serves as a magnetic control component. It operates the valve by acting on the magnetic mechanism inside the valve through a magnetic field, enabling the valve to be opened, closed, or reset. This non-contact control method reduces mechanical wear, enhancing the reliability and service life of the valve.
Furthermore, this special control method can also serve as a "dedicated key", preventing unauthorized personnel from opening the valve at will.
Magnet For Natural Gas Valve Keys

In terms of magnet material, sintered neodymium iron boron is primarily used. It has strong magnetic force, small size, and mainly comes in circular and cylindrical shapes. Generally, N35 performance can meet the requirements. Commonly used sizes are within 10mm, with typical sizes including 5x4mm, 6x3mm, 8x4mm. For 4-way pipes, 5x4mm is recommended.
The above is a brief introduction to the use of magnets in valve switch keys. This magnetic control technology has been widely applied in gas valves, smart gas meters, and various gas safety control devices.
