Driven by process optimization, MP Materials USA produced a record 563 tons of praseodymium oxide in the first quarter.
During the first quarter of the year, the company sold 464 tons of praseodymium oxide at an average selling price of $52/kg.
In the first quarter, MP Materials produced 12,213 tons of rare earth oxides and sold 6,264 tons at an average price of $4,808 per ton. The company stopped exporting rare earth concentrates to China and increased its rare earth ore inventory.
Praseodymium oxide is used in the production of praseodymium metal, NdFeB permanent magnet materials, coloring agents, chemical additives and so on.
In the first quarter, the company's revenues increased 25% year-over-year to $60.8 million, including $5.2 million from its magnetic business.
James Litinsky, chief executive officer of MP Materials, said, “In the first quarter, we executed strongly in both our rare earth and magnetic divisions, with record production of praseodymium-neodymium oxide and initial sales of magnetic materials.”
MP began magnet validation with U.S. automaker General Motors and expects commercial magnet production to remain on track through the end of the year.
