What are the materials for injection molded magnets?

Injection molded magnets, also known as plastic magnets or injection bonded magnets, are composite magnetic materials composed of "magnetic powder + polymer binder". The type of magnetic powder determines the upper limit of magnetic properties, while the resin affects the molding and mechanical properties. So, what are the specific types of injection molded magnet materials?

Currently, the main applications on the market are injection-molded neodymium-iron-boron and injection-molded ferrite, with injection-molded samarium-cobalt also existing, but rarely used.

Injection molded NdFeB is currently the mainstream choice for high-end applications. By using high-performance NdFeB magnetic powder combined with engineering plastics such as PA and PPS for injection molding, complex structures can be integrated. Its advantages lie in high magnetic performance and good dimensional consistency, making it particularly suitable for applications that require high magnetic performance and precision, such as brushless motor rotors, automotive sensors, and encoders. These materials demand higher process control and come with relatively higher raw material costs.

In comparison, injection-molded ferrite is a typical cost-effective solution. By combining ferrite magnetic powder with resins such as PP, PE, or PA, the material offers stable cost and excellent corrosion resistance, making it highly suitable for mass production. Although its magnetic properties are significantly lower than those of neodymium-iron-boron, it still finds widespread applications in fan motors, small appliances, magnetic encoders, power tools, and sensors.

The above provides an overview of several specific materials used in injection-molded magnets. If your project prioritizes miniaturization, high magnetic flux, and precise control, we recommend injection-molded neodymium-iron-boron magnets. If cost control and environmental resistance are more important, injection-molded ferrite magnets offer greater advantages.
