Are N56 Grade Neodymium Magnets Available?

When it comes to powerful magnets, many people want them to be as strong as possible. Sometimes, even N52 or N54 magnets don't meet the requirements. Some netizens have asked: Are there N56 grade magnets available?

Currently, N56 grade neodymium magnets do exist, but this grade is extremely rare and is typically reserved for experimental purposes or limited high-end applications.

Basic Performance Parameters of Neodymium Magnet Grade N56

Br: 1.48 - 1.53 T

Hcb: 820 kA/m

Hcj: 875 kA/m

(BH)max = 52-57 MGOe

If you see an “N56” magnet, it could be one of two scenarios: either it's a marketing claim or mislabeling, or it's an experimental or special batch sample.

False advertising or mislabeling: This is the most common scenario. Some suppliers deliberately inflate the grade designation to attract attention and make their products appear superior. They may actually be selling N52 or N54 but label it as N56.

Experimental or Special Batch Samples: Some high-end magnetic material manufacturers (particularly in China and Japan) may conduct minor formulation optimizations on N55-grade magnets during R&D, slightly exceeding 1.45 T in remanence (Br) to achieve “N56” in experimental data. These samples have not yet received formal certification from international standards bodies (such as IEC or GB/T).

Currently, N52 grade is the mainstream choice for commercial high-performance magnets. The performance of N50 is slightly lower than N52, but it has a high cost-effectiveness and excellent performance.

In addition to the magnetic energy product (N value), attention should also be paid to the coercivity (Hcb, Hcj). High coercivity grades (such as those with suffixes "H", "SH", "UH", "EH") have stronger demagnetization resistance and are more suitable for use in high temperatures or harsh environments.
