How do axial flux motors prevent magnetic steel collisions?

Axial flux motors offer high power density and efficiency, but they also present a rather troublesome issue during assembly: when the stator and rotor are brought close together, a very strong magnetic force is generated between the permanent magnets. If handled incorrectly, the two components can easily snap together instantly, causing the permanent magnets to chip or crack; in severe cases, this can even damage the entire rotor. The assembly process is therefore of paramount importance.

The current common practice in the industry is to first use directional fixtures for positioning. By using tools such as guide columns and guide sleeves, the stator and rotor are always kept on the same axis, and then slowly assembled. This can prevent the two from tilting and avoid the situation of "skewed suction", greatly reducing the risk of magnetic steel collision.

In addition to guiding jigs, an increasing number of manufacturers are now adopting servo press-fitting equipment to replace traditional pneumatic presses. Servo press-fitting allows for segmented speed control throughout the assembly process: rapid movement in the initial stage improves efficiency; when the stator and rotor approach each other and the magnetic attraction increases significantly, the speed is automatically reduced to ensure the press-fitting is completed smoothly, thereby preventing collisions between the magnets caused by instantaneous attraction. At the same time, servo equipment can monitor pressure and displacement in real time, resulting in higher assembly precision.

For axial flux motors, good products not only rely on magnetic steel and motor design, but also on assembly processes. Guided positioning, servo pressing, combined with reasonable fixtures and process control, have become standard configurations for many motor factories. Only by doing every assembly detail well can we ensure stable motor performance, reduce rework and product defect rates.

NST can customize axial flux motor arc-shaped magnetic steel and multipole magnetic rings according to the customer's motor structure, supporting customization of size, grade, magnetization method, etc.
