Magnet Used in Mini Motor

In modern electronic products, smart devices, and precision machinery, miniature motors play a crucial role. As one of the key components determining motor performance, the selection and stability of magnets directly impact the motor's starting torque, rotational speed, noise levels, and lifespan. Today, we provide a comprehensive overview of magnets for miniature motors, covering materials, performance characteristics, manufacturing processes, and applications.

Common Magnet Types for Micro/Mini Motors

Depending on motor structure and performance requirements, micro motors typically utilize neodymium iron boron magnets, ferrite magnets, injection-molded magnets, and bonded neodymium iron boron magnets. Neodymium iron boron magnets are employed in smart locks, drones, electric toothbrushes, mobile phone vibration motors, RC aircraft, and lens motors. Ferrite magnets are employed in toy motors, small appliances, and automotive seat motors. Injection-molded ferrite or neodymium magnets are utilized in Hall-effect motors and encoder motors.

Shapes of Magnets for Micro MiNi Motors

Primarily includes radial multi-pole ring shapes, arc shapes, hollow cylindrical shapes, rectangular shapes, and custom shapes. Among these, arc shapes are the most common, offering the advantage of tightly conforming to the inner wall of the motor housing to form a uniform air gap magnetic field. Multi-pole magnetic rings are also widely used, featuring evenly distributed magnetic poles that enable high-speed control. For some low-cost motors, rectangular shapes are chosen due to their ease of processing and high versatility.

Technical Requirements for Magnets in Micro Motors

In terms of dimensional accuracy, machining tolerances generally need to be controlled within ±0.05mm.

Regarding magnetic properties, high remanence (Br) and high coercivity (Hcj) are required. Magnetic flux density must be uniformly distributed, particularly in high-precision encoder motors or brushless motors.

Magnetization: Miniature brushless DC motors commonly use multi-pole radially magnetized ring magnets. Encoder motors may require staggered polarity or sinusoidal distribution magnetization. For surface-mount magnet structures, paired magnetization is essential to ensure consistent pole orientation.

Regarding temperature resistance, miniature motors suffer from poor heat dissipation due to compact space. Magnets must withstand significant temperature rise. While other materials are generally acceptable, neodymium magnets typically require M grade (100°C) or higher.

In terms of assembly, when combined with the rotor or housing, it is required to have good surface treatment and strong adhesive compatibility.
