What are the advantages of 12 poles magnetic ring?

12 pole magnetic ring refers to a ring-shaped magnet with 12 magnetic poles distributed on the surface of the magnetic ring, namely 6 N poles and 6 S poles, arranged alternately in N-S. Some people also call it a 6 pairs pole magnetic ring. This number of poles is mainly used for brushless motor rotors and Hall speed detection. The following is an introduction to the application advantages of this magnetic ring.

Advantage 1: Higher Signal Resolution

The 12-pole magnetic ring undergoes NS magnetisation, forming twelve magnetic poles per revolution. When employed in Hall-effect speed detection, this configuration yields a higher pulse count (six pulses per revolution).

Advantage 2: More Suitable for Low-Speed, High-Torque Applications

At the same frequency, a higher number of poles results in lower rotational speed. The 12-pole magnetic ring is particularly well-suited for applications requiring high torque and low rotational speeds, such as electric vehicles and power tools.

Advantage 3: Enhanced Motor Smoothness with Reduced Vibration and Noise

During motor operation, the number of magnetic ring poles directly influences back-EMF waveforms and commutation characteristics. This difference in performance is particularly noticeable in brushless fans, water pumps, and small drive motors.

Advantage 4: Superior Compatibility

Common stator pole configurations for small brushless motors include 9-slot, 12-slot, and 18-slot designs. The 12-pole magnetic ring exhibits high compatibility with these stator pole counts, such as: 12-slot stator – 12-pole (classic 1:1 ratio) ,9-slot stator – 12-pole.

The above outlines the four principal advantages of 12-pole magnetic rings. Currently, the primary materials utilised by clients include injection-moulded ferrite, bonded neodymium iron boron, and sintered ferrite.
