Encoders are key components for position detection and velocity feedback in motor control, automation equipment, robots, and precision motion systems. In magnetic encoders, the magnetic ring serves as the core component, directly determining the accuracy and stability of signal acquisition. Among them, dual code track magnetic ring is a common and important form of magnetic ring. The following will introduce its characteristics, appearance pictures, and track diagrams.
Dual-code magnetic rings feature two independent sets of magnetic pole distributions in their magnetization configuration, enabling the output of two orthogonal signals with a 90° phase difference. Through these two signals, the encoder can not only detect rotational angle and speed but also identify the direction of rotation.
Advantages of Dual-Channel Magnetic Rings;
1. Directional Recognition: Compared to single-channel magnetic rings, dual-channel signals accurately determine whether the motor rotates clockwise or counterclockwise.
2. High Resolution: When used with IC-MU series products, measurement outputs can be selected as incremental or absolute modes.
3. Strong Interference Resistance: Dual-channel redundant signals facilitate error detection and correction within the system.

Principle of Dual-Channel Magnetic Ring Measurement in Encoders;
1) Resolution ~20 bits (for 64 pole pairs)
By dividing one cycle of the dual-track magnetic ring's main track into a maximum of 16,384 equal segments (14 bits), a resolution of up to 1,048,576 segments per rotation (20 bits) can be achieved.
After assembling the dual-track magnetic ring with iC-MU series products, the output mode can be configured during initial setup.
2) Absolute Angle Measurement
The iC-MU series incorporates built-in Sensor Detection Unit 1 and Detection Unit 2. Each detection unit monitors a corresponding track on the magnetic ring. With each full rotation of the magnetic ring, the magnetic fields detected by these two units produce a 360° phase difference. The absolute angle is measured based on this phase difference.
