How do I choose a magnet grades?

Many times when we communicate with customers, we will find that some customers do not know what magnets their products are suitable for. When they inquire, they basically mention several magnet grades that are more selected.

Of course! The grades that are used more meet many needs, but they are not suitable for all customers. Sometimes you can choose a cheaper one with lower performance, sometimes you need the grade with a higher performance or temperature resistance.

In general, the first step is to determine the most suitable material for your magnet or magnetic component, and the next step is to determine the specific grade of magnet required for your application.

There is another situation is that the customer is not clear which magnets can choose, and it is not clear which material of magnets is more suitable for their products. At this time, we recommend that customers purchase or customize directly after consulting the magnet manufacturer.

Just as each person in a team determines whether the team can achieve maximum efficiency, each part determines whether the product can play the maximum value, so the magnet is not suitable, affecting the performance of the product can be more excellent, which also affects the competitiveness of the product. We will introduce some factors of purchasing magnet need to pay attention.

1. Maxinum and mininum working temperature of magnet.

Why mention temperature resistance first? Because magnets that exceed the temperature range (below the lowest temperature or above the highest temperature) face the risk of demagnetization, the performance of products using magnets will be weakened or even damaged.

Different materials have a very big difference in temperature resistance, such as rare earth neodymium magnets the maxinum temperature range is 80~230 ° C, ceramic ferrite magnet can reach 250 ° C, samarium cobalt magnets can even withstand temperatures < 350 ° C.

The maxinum temperature resistance of magnets with different grades of material is not the same. For example, the grade of neodymium magnet, N35M can reach 100℃, N35H can reach 120℃.

2.How much magnetic force does magnet needs

For the product, the suitable magnetic force can make the product play the maximum value, but it does not mean that the higher the magnetic force, the more conducive to the product to play its value.

First, high magnetic magnets are at risk of demagnetization at high temperatures. For example, the more commonly used strong neodymium magnets on the market now can only withstand a temperature of 230 ° C, otherwise it will face the risk of demagnetization, then the performance of the product using magnets may be weakened or even damaged and cannot be used.

Secondly, the price. For example, the price of ferrite magnets is lower than that of Ndfeb magnets, and most motor magnetic rings on the market use ferrite. One is because the magnetic force of ferrite is enough to meet the needs of use, and the other is because when the size of the motor magnetic ring is large, the cost of using neodymium magnets will be much higher.

Finally, size also determines the range of magnetic forces. If you need to calculate neodymium magnet gauss, click on Gauss Calculator.

3.What environment in which products using magnets are?

Does the magnet need to be exposed to the surface? Are magnets susceptible to chemicals? Do magnets need to be resistant to oxidation and corrosion? Does the magnet need to be crash-resistant?

Because magnets of different materials have different properties. For example, ferrite magnets are more suitable for use in high temperature and humid environments, while neodymium magnets are not as resistant to temperature as ferrite, and oxidation and corrosion resistance need to be guaranteed by coating; Aluminum-nickel-cobalt magnets are more fragile than neodymium magnets. The rubber magnet and rubber coating magnet may have a better crashworthiness.

4.Safety of magnet

Some magnet grades may pose a greater safety risk to humans or electronic devices. Make sure the magnet you choose does not create unsafe conditions or cause interference with other equipment.

5.Demagnetizing Resistance of magnet

Demagnetizing Resistance influence on the magnet is vital, then we need to involve the intrinsic coercive force(Hcj). The higher the intrinsic coercive force, the better the temperature stability (anti-demagnetization). But the highest temperature is not only one reason be demagnetization, we have a Blog refer to it, if you are interested in Reason Of Neodymium Magnet Demagnetization, you can browser it.

The above is some factor of purchasing magnet when you need to choose the grade of magnet. Courage magnet is a manufacturer of direct sales and custom magnets. We are more inclined to customize magnets for customers' products. If you have any purchase inquiry, you are welcome to contact us and we will customize the fit magnet to you.
